World Cup 2026: Sundowns Defender Praises Okon and Mbokazi’s Exceptional Displays for South Africa

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Grant Kekana has commended the South African pair of Ime Okon and Mbekezeli Mbokazi for their exceptional displays at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

It’s worth noting that Okon and Mbokazi were integral to the Bafana Bafana defense, playing a crucial role in securing the team's first-ever entrance into the Round of 32.

South Africa’s journey in the tournament came to an end after a narrow 1-0 loss to co-hosts Canada in the Round of 32. Stephen Eustaquio netted the decisive goal in the second minute of stoppage time, bringing Bafana Bafana's campaign to a close.

In a discussion with Sowetan, Kekana, who praised the strong partnership between Okon and Mbokazi in defense, expressed confidence in South Africa’s defensive prospects.

“I love it, shout out to Ime, TLB (Mbokazi) knows, and you can see where our future is heading,” Kekana remarked, as noted by Sowetan.

“This is what we love to witness.

“It may have been us in the past or whatever, but we desire the second or third generation to excel even further and raise the standards.
