Yaw Ampofo Ankrah calls for Ghana to create a strategic plan spanning 10 to 30 years aimed at hosting the FIFA World Cup.

National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has urged Ghana to initiate a long-term plan to host the FIFA World Cup. He emphasized that the nation should aim for this goal over the next 10 to 30 years instead of dismissing it as unattainable. In an interview on Joy Prime, Ankrah encouraged Ghana to reach out to FIFA early and seek advice on the criteria for hosting football’s premier tournament. He advocates for a patient, organized strategy that enables the country to progressively align with the governing body's expectations. "Let's just inquire: 'Hey, we aspire to host the World Cup in Ghana in 20 years, in 10 years, in five years, or in 30 years. What steps should we take to begin?'" He contended that Ghana should embark on this journey with humility, rather than assuming that hosting the World Cup is out of reach. "Let’s be modest and initiate the process. When people claim, 'Oh, Ghana can never host the World Cup,' I beg to differ. We could potentially do it alongside our neighbors. We might be able to achieve this." He suggested that Ghana, Nigeria, and possibly three or four other African nations could collaborate if they choose to unite their efforts. However, he stressed the importance of allowing themselves ample time. While he recognized that Ghana faces significant infrastructure obstacles, such as aging stadiums, he maintained that a well-defined long-term strategy, supported by investment and regional collaboration, could ultimately transform this aspiration into a reality.
