Chelsea's head coach Xabi Alonso has revealed that Cole Palmer is a remarkable talent, and he is focused on shaping the team to maximize his potential this season.
During his first press conference, Alonso conveyed his immediate admiration for Palmer’s intellect, decision-making, and unique abilities.

He emphasized the importance of establishing a solid team framework that enables Palmer to excel as a prominent attacking player.
After a disrupted 2025-26 campaign, Alonso is dedicated to crafting a tactical approach that allows the 24-year-old the freedom to express himself in the attacking zone and rediscover his best form.
“We have already had several training sessions. From day one, it’s clear he’s a distinctive talent, a unique player. It’s rare to find someone like that. You can see his skill set, how he makes the right choices at the right times,” he told BBC Sport on Monday.
“I’m pleased that he has arrived with a positive attitude and a mindset geared for a successful season, and we are eager to extract the best from him.
“If we can build a robust team with the right stability to identify the key players, Cole will certainly be one of those crucial figures in our attacking setup.”
While Palmer is expected to continue as a vital contributor for Chelsea, uncertainties loom over the futures of Argentinian players Enzo Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho.

Alonso hopes for Fernandez to remain, but did not elaborate on their discussions, while Garnacho appears likely to depart from the Blues.
“The situation is that we have talked with the sporting directors and there is interest from other clubs in him,” Alonso mentioned regarding Garnacho.
“So, we’ll see how this unfolds. But hopefully, it concludes in the best possible manner for everyone involved.”
