Sports Minister Kofi Adams has verified that Carlos Queiroz receives a monthly salary of $80,000.
Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has confirmed that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz receives a monthly salary of $80,000, countering widespread claims that the Portuguese coach earns $100,000 each month.
Queiroz took over as Ghana's head coach prior to the 2026 FIFA World Cup following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March. Although the 73-year-old entered into a short-term agreement with the Ghana Football Association, the specifics of his contract were not disclosed initially, leading to speculation regarding his earnings.
In an interview with TV3, Adams clarified the situation, asserting that the former coach of Iran, Egypt, and Colombia is earning less than previously reported.
"Carlos Queiroz earns $80,000 a month, not the $100,000 that had been rumored," stated the Buem Member of Parliament.
Queiroz successfully led the Black Stars to the knockout rounds of the FIFA World Cup for the first time since the 2010 tournament held in South Africa.
Ghana kicked off their campaign with a close 1-0 win over Panama, followed by a scoreless draw against England. A 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final Group C match placed the Black Stars third in the standings, which was sufficient to progress to the Round of 32.
However, Ghana's World Cup run ended with a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the knockout phase.
Despite the elimination, Queiroz's efforts have reportedly garnered positive feedback from the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports, with the seasoned coach anticipated to receive a two-year contract extension to continue leading the national team.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, where they have been placed in Group C alongside Côte d'Ivoire, Somalia, and The Gambia. The qualification process is set to commence in September.
