Abdellah Ouazane shone on Thursday night during the match against Ajax. The seventeen-year-old forward contributed to the 2-0 victory over Atalanta with an exceptional goal, while trying to remain humble in the face of high expectations.
“I scored a beautiful goal, but we remain focused on our usual game,” Ouazane said at the end of the match. The forward secured the score in the dying moments of the game with a magnificent individual effort, where he dribbled past his defender before placing the ball in the top left corner after hitting the post.
“I looked at the clock and realized there were really only a few seconds left to play. So, I decided to go for a one-on-one, as I hadn't had that opportunity during the match,” Ouazane recounted.
“It was fantastic to finish the match this way. I was really thrilled after scoring. Everything went well.”
The young Ajax player explains that his offensive approach reflects his personality. “I am a footballer who always looks to move forward. Offensive play is part of my essence. I don't really enjoy backward passes, but there are times when it is necessary.”
Ouazane relies entirely on his own skills. “When I stepped onto the field, the other players were starting to show signs of fatigue, so I had to take that into account. I rely on my abilities with every action. I know I can do it. I proved that again today with my goal.”
Although he is still very young, Ouazane is already seen as a promising talent, with the potential to reach the highest levels globally. The forward does not want to project himself in that direction just yet.
“I don't worry about that at all. I focus on my progress every day and live day by day. I don't want to say for now that I can reach the world elite. Many talented seventeen-year-olds have not succeeded. I want to stay true to myself and keep my feet on the ground.”
