On the eve of the return match against Al-Swehly SC, Espérance Sportive de Tunis is generating intense discussions. The club has decided to impose a heavy penalty on its Algerian international Youcef Belaïli. This sanction follows his dismissal during the 0-1 defeat in Misrata, Libya, in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League 2026-2027.

The incident occurred after a penalty was awarded to the Libyan team in the second half. Dissatisfied with the referee's decision, Belaïli expressed his discontent and received a second yellow card, leading to a red card. The management of Espérance has therefore enforced its internal regulations, which impose a financial penalty in the event of a dismissal during a match.

This dismissal is a significant blow for the Blood and Gold ahead of a crucial encounter. Having lost 1-0 in the first leg, Espérance must win by at least two goals to qualify directly for the next stage. In Belaïli's absence, the Tunisian attack will need to find alternatives to turn the tide in front of their home crowd.

In parallel with this internal sanction, Espérance's management has reportedly contacted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to contest the officiating of Jean-Pierre Nguiene and request the annulment of their player's dismissal. As the match in Radès approaches, this move adds an extra layer of stakes to an already decisive confrontation for the future of the Tunisian club on the continental stage.
