Adel Aql: The whistle of the seventh round under scrutiny.. A controversial refereeing discussion in the Professional League

Adel Aql, a refereeing expert and technical analyst on Today’s Seventh TV, stated that the seventh round of the Professional League placed referees in a difficult position during the ten matches of the round, where 34 goals were scored. The peak of excitement and controversy revolved around refereeing decisions, with some being correct according to the law, while others were contentious and required intervention from the committee to correct and unify these decisions.

Two Penalties in the Ismaily vs. Dirot Match

Aql added in his technical analysis of the round's matches on Today’s Seventh TV that some of the most notable decisions requiring focus, accuracy, and good reading of the play by referees are related to penalty kicks, offside, and cards, especially regarding "red cards" due to a second yellow. He highlighted some key incidents from the match between Ismaily and Dirot, which ended in a 2-2 draw, where the referee awarded two penalties, one for each team, and the referee's positioning made it easier to make the correct decision. Meanwhile, the match between El Sekka El Hadid and Haras El Hodood was filled with excitement and competitiveness, featuring several impactful refereeing decisions, ending with El Sekka El Hadid winning 5-4, and the referee also successfully assessed the penalty kicks, with the assistants excelling during the match.

Controversial Refereeing Decisions in the Laviina vs. Al Nasr Match

Aql pointed out that the match between Laviina and Al Nasr saw several impactful refereeing decisions, most notably the referee's disregard for a legitimate penalty for Laviina, with the match ending in a goalless draw. Additionally, the assistant referee was not accurate in several offside calls during the match, which was officiated by a team consisting of Amr El Attar as the main referee, with Hossam Hassan Atta and Osama Shaaban as assistants.

Aql explained that the seventh round witnessed a good presence of referees in most matches, and there were many controversial refereeing decisions that require the committee led by Essam Abdel Fattah and his colleagues to review the referees and assistants during the performance analysis period provided to referees after each round, in order to reduce impactful errors and strive for consistency in similar situations. The round tested the referees' character well.

Aql concluded his analysis by confirming that the round only saw one red card, issued to Moamen Atef of Haras El Hodood for an off-the-ball foul on a player from El Sekka El Hadid. However, this round is considered one of the best in terms of goal-scoring, with 34 goals recorded. Nevertheless, the decisions regarding penalty kicks, offside, and second yellow cards will remain among the most contentious and exciting refereeing decisions in the competition.
