The Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia has been halted with a red flag after multiple cars encountered power unit issues during a rainy set of formation laps.

Following a significant tropical downpour, the race at Sepang was poised to commence with several laps conducted behind the safety car prior to a standing start.

However, as F1 prepared for its inaugural wet race under the 2026 regulations, several cars faced power unit troubles in the wet conditions.

Initially, polesitter Max Verstappen experienced a lack of acceleration from his Red Bull, although he managed to regain speed shortly thereafter. Not long after, second-place Lewis Hamilton reported a comparable issue with his Ferrari, struggling to move during the first formation lap while the rest of the pack sped past him. He too found his pace again on the following lap.

Additional drivers, including Audi's Gabriel Bortoleto, also seemed to face related difficulties, prompting race control to halt the start procedure and display the red flag.
