The difficult situation at Udinese could open opportunities for Vladimir Petkovic. The former coach of the Greens is mentioned among the options being considered to revitalize the Italian club, although another candidate now seems to be in the lead.

Vladimir Petkovic has a chance to bounce back in Italy. Since leaving his position with Algeria, the coach has been among the profiles examined by Udinese to succeed Kosta Runjaic. His name emerged following the heavy defeat against AS Roma (2-5), but he is not in pole position: Paolo Zanetti now appears to be the favorite. This option is still to be confirmed.

The urgency is palpable for the Friulian club, currently nineteenth in Serie A with only five points after ten matches. This worrying record consists of one win, two draws, and seven losses, compounded by twenty-three goals conceded. The management is looking to provoke a shock before the trip to Venezia, scheduled for Friday, November 6. Several Italian media outlets even speak of an agreement with Zanetti, pending an official announcement.

However, Petkovic has credentials in the Italian league. His time at Lazio from 2012 to 2014 was marked by winning the Coppa Italia in 2013 against Roma. His experience with Switzerland, which he led to the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, enhances the interest of the Friulian decision-makers in his profile.

His tenure with the Greens ended on August 3, 2026, with an amicable separation from the FAF. Despite an extension until 2028, Petkovic did not survive a record deemed unsatisfactory during the World Cup. Algeria managed to advance from the group stage before losing to Switzerland (0-2) in the Round of 16. Twenty-nine months after his arrival, he stepped down, paving the way for the appointment of Brahim Hemdani.
