Audi has revealed that Thomas Fuhr will assume the role of CEO at Audi Formula Racing GmbH, the Neuburg-based branch responsible for developing its F1 power units.

Fuhr will lead the Neuburg facility in addition to the existing team, which Audi states will enable chief technical director Stefan Dreyer to "focus entirely on steering the technical advancement of Audi’s Formula 1 power unit".

At the same time, COO Christian Foyer will continue to manage the daily operations at Neuburg.

Fuhr comes with over 30 years of extensive industry experience, having been the managing director of Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains from 2009 to 2012. He has also held high-level positions at companies like GROHE and LIXIL, and joins Audi after serving as Chief Technology Officer at Georg Fischer Building Flow Solutions, where he led international engineering and manufacturing firms.

This blend of technical expertise and organizational insight made him a prime candidate for Audi as the company seeks to advance its in-house F1 power unit, which made its debut this season.

"We have established a solid foundation in Neuburg, creating Audi’s first Formula 1 power unit from scratch," Audi F1 CEO and team principal Mattia Binotto remarked. "Given Thomas's understanding of both the technical challenges and the requirements for building and leading high-performing teams, I am confident he will be instrumental in further developing the team and its structure to position us as a leading F1 manufacturer. I eagerly anticipate welcoming him to the team."

Fuhr expressed, "I am honored to join Audi’s Formula 1 initiative. The opportunity to influence Audi’s future in the sport is what makes this role so thrilling. The team in Neuburg has engineered an entirely new power unit and successfully brought it to the track.

"I aim to build upon that progress by integrating expertise throughout the organization and fostering the conditions necessary for us to compete at the highest level."

Audi last phased out the CEO position at its engine division at the beginning of 2025, following the departure of former CEO Adam Baker from the organization.
