The first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League took place last weekend. In Senegal, FC Teungueth suffered a defeat (0-2) against Colombe Sportive de Douala, a club from Cameroon. In a press conference, Malick Daf, the coach of the Senegalese team, criticized the lack of competitiveness.
Malick Daf addressed journalists with great anger after the match. In his analysis, the Senegalese coach highlighted the absence of a league for the clubs. “We cannot shine with a league that lacks competition. Do you expect us to excel with friendly matches? In those games, the level of competition is not the same. Nevertheless, we remain discreet and continue to work. How long has it been since the league started before the knockout stages of African competitions? This poses a real problem. There should be no postponement of the league, especially with an already packed schedule. When a team has to participate in an African competition, taking away official matches does not help them. But we have no choice but to adapt,” expressed Malick Daf.
The coach believes that his team's performances would have been different if they had already played official league matches. “We would have preferred to have a few league matches before facing this Cameroonian team. We were champions, but it has been four months since we last competed officially. We are playing friendly matches against Wally Daan and Port, but the level of adversity is not comparable.”
