Khalid Aucho is about to turn a significant page in his international career. After announcing his international retirement on October 12, the 33-year-old midfielder has been selected by Paul Put for the two matches against Botswana in the CAF 2027 qualifiers. His inclusion in the 30-man squad will allow him to say goodbye to the Cranes fans during the home match scheduled for November 14 at Hoima City Stadium.
The Belgian coach stated that he contacted the former captain to arrange a fitting farewell. “For a player of his stature, Khalid deserves a well-organized goodbye,” Paul Put said during the announcement of his selection. The intention is to give him the opportunity to reunite with his teammates and greet the supporters who have backed him throughout his international journey. According to reports from the Ugandan press, Aucho has accepted this proposal.

During his 13 years with the Cranes, Khalid Aucho played 77 international matches and participated in three Africa Cup of Nations finals. His journey, which began on November 30, 2013, was notably marked by Uganda's return to the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 after a 39-year absence.
As a former captain and an iconic figure in the dressing room, he leaves the international stage with a wealth of experience serving his country. The meeting on November 14 in Hoima will be an opportunity for supporters to pay tribute to him before the return match against Botswana, scheduled for November 17.
