Former Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has expressed his openness to a one-time participation at the Le Mans 24 Hours, naming his ex-Red Bull teammate Max Verstappen as his preferred partner for the race.
The Australian has been away from racing since his departure from F1 following the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. However, during an appearance on the F1 Beyond the Grid, the eight-time grand prix champion stated he would welcome the opportunity to conclude his racing career on his own terms.
“A year ago, I would have said I will never wear a helmet again. I’m finished. That’s it. But there’s something in me that feels it’d be nice to conclude my racing journey a bit more on my own terms.
"So to participate in something that, when I take off the helmet, I’m smiling and content, and perhaps that’s the final bit of closure I need."

Ricciardo mentioned that a full season didn't excite him, but he could envision himself participating in a one-off event at Le Mans. A significant part of the allure for the former Red Bull driver is the prospect of sharing a car with teammates, rather than facing them as competitors in F1.
"To share a car with fellow drivers and to truly have teammates to exchange data and assist each other," he elaborated. "I would find it enjoyable. It would be the type of driving and camaraderie that I would truly appreciate."
When asked who he would like to share a car with in the endurance race, Ricciardo responded: "I don’t want to add any pressure on him, but obviously Max is a name that would be very high on the list.
"We discussed Red Bull back in 2018 and the ‘what ifs’, and I was looking to rejoin the team towards the end of my career. So perhaps that’s a way to, yeah, I’d say give the fans what they want."
