Since October 1, 2026, the city of Kinshasa has been hosting an advanced training course dedicated to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology. A total of 60 referees from both divisions of the Illicocash Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 of Linafoot have gathered to learn the protocols and technical subtleties of this now-essential tool at the highest level.
Organized with direct technical support from experts sent by CAF and FIFA, this theoretical and practical session represents a crucial step in the professionalization process of Congolese referees. The clearly stated goal of the governing bodies is to enhance the impartiality of decisions, increase the credibility of national competitions, and significantly reduce the controversies that regularly tarnish major matches in the league.
The initiative is already generating strong enthusiasm within the sports community, which sees it as a harbinger of imminent transformation on the country's pitches. By investing significantly in the training of its officials before the start of the new season, FECOFA is laying the necessary groundwork for a gradual integration of VAR into the Congolese league.
