Ferrari is elevating its junior driver Dino Beganovic to a role as a reserve driver for Formula 1 in the 2027 season.

Beganovic has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy for the last seven years, having clinched the Italian and Swedish karting championships and finished as the runner-up in the WSK Euro Series.

Throughout his journey in the young-driver program, Beganovic secured third place as a rookie in Italian F4, won the Formula Regional European Championship title on his second attempt, and ended both of his F3 seasons in sixth place. Currently, the DAMS driver holds fifth in the 2026 F2 standings – again as a sophomore – following consecutive victories in Madring and Baku.

Although he has claimed victories in every series where he has competed full-time, Beganovic has been outshined by another Ferrari talent, the younger Rafael Camara. The Brazilian currently leads the F2 championship as a rookie and has secured a 2027 F1 contract with Haas, where he is anticipated to team up with fellow FDA alumnus Oliver Bearman.

As a result, Beganovic’s junior career is wrapping up without securing an F1 seat, and he will be joining Antonio Giovinazzi in Ferrari’s reserve lineup. The 22-year-old Swedish-Bosnian has participated in four FP1 sessions with the Scuderia during 2025 and 2026, and will take on additional development responsibilities.

Even with Camara and Beganovic moving up from F2, there will still be a Ferrari junior in F1’s feeder series next year. Tuukka Taponen will advance from F3 after finishing third this season, thanks to an impressive three podium finishes in the last two rounds – he had not achieved a top-three position prior to this in 2026.
