Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has expressed concern over the recent performances of the Black Stars following a disappointing start in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana recorded two defeats in their opening matches, losing 2-0 to Ivory Coast in Bouaké, and then 4-2 to Gambia at the Accra Stadium.
These results place the four-time African champions at the bottom of Group C, without a single point, intensifying the pressure on the team.
This unpromising start coincided with the resignation of head coach Carlos Queiroz, who has left his position.
Speaking on TV3, Mr. Adams shared his concerns regarding the state of the national team, stating that the issues in Ghanaian football go beyond just results on the pitch.
“We are worried about the performances of the Black Stars. The problem with our football is structural and relates to both leadership and talent,” said the MP for Buem.
The Black Stars are expected to regroup next month for a double-header against Somalia as part of their third and fourth matchdays of the competition.
These matches will be managed by an interim technical team appointed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), while the search for a new head coach continues.
A definitive appointment is expected to be made before Ghana's final group matches next year.
Ghana hopes to return to the AFCON after missing the last edition in Morocco, having failed to win any of their six qualifying matches for the 2025 tournament.
