The performance of Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui during Manchester United's match against Italian side Como drew some criticism after the English team conceded four goals in the game, which took place in the third round of the UEFA Champions League. Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel blamed the defense for the drop in performance and result.

In his analysis of the match on CBS Sports, Schmeichel openly criticized Mazraoui, stating that his defensive performance was below par, whether he played as a left-back or after switching to the right side. He pointed out that Mazraoui's positioning during one moment that led to Como's second goal revealed clear gaps in the defensive setup.

Discussing the Moroccan defender's situation, the former Danish goalkeeper emphasized that the performance he delivered was insufficient to avoid the mistakes exploited by the Italian team, expressing uncertainty about how long it might take the player to overcome these challenges and regain his known form, while questions remain about Manchester United's defensive performance.

As for Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt, Schmeichel also noted the lack of competitiveness from the player, explaining that he had not played a single minute since November of last season and had been out of consideration for participation in recent times, before sitting on the bench against Leeds without appearing in team training, according to his analysis.

On another note, the fallout from the defeat was not limited to criticism of the defense, as Michael Carrick, Manchester United's coach, took responsibility for the result in his post-match comments to the media. The loss to Como reignited discussions about the solidity of the defense and its ability to avoid mistakes in European matches.
