Spalletti's main regret concerns an Algerian player!

When asked which players he feels he did not highlight enough, Luciano Spalletti immediately mentioned an Algerian, whom he considers his biggest regret during his time at Napoli.
Luciano Spalletti shared his thoughts on his career and the players who have marked his journey. In an interview with Tuttosport, the current coach of Juventus mentioned David Pizarro, Stanislav Lobotka, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Mohamed Salah, and João Cancelo among those he believes he had a significant impact on.
However, when asked which player he regretted not showcasing enough, Spalletti did not hesitate: Adam Ounas. “My biggest regret is Adam Ounas at Napoli, without a doubt”, admitted the Italian coach. This is a strong statement regarding the Algerian international, whose technical talent has never been questioned, but who never managed to establish himself permanently at Napoli.
Spalletti had worked with Ounas during the 2021-2022 season, before the Algerian's departure to Lille. At Napoli, competition and inconsistent playing time hindered the winger's progress to the desired level. Years later, his former coach openly admits that he failed to fully exploit his qualities.
Now 29 years old, Ounas continues his career in Qatar. After stints with Al-Sadd, Al-Sailiya, and Al-Shamal, he signed with Al-Gharafa in September 2026, where he reunites with Yacine Brahimi. He recently scored a goal in the Qatar Cup against Mesaimeer.
