The national team finished the first half trailing Burundi 2-1 in the match taking place today, Tuesday, at the Intwari Stadium as part of the second round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Greens started the match in an unexpected manner, as the host team opened the scoring early, specifically in the sixth minute, with an own goal by Fares Chaibi.
Just when the fans expected a strong reaction from Ibrahim Hamdani's players, Burundi's standout striker surprised everyone by scoring the second goal in the thirteenth minute.
The national team had to wait until the twenty-third minute to create their first opportunity, with Beloumi dribbling and shooting from outside the box, but his shot went wide of the right post of the Burundian goalkeeper.
Beloumi returned in the thirtieth minute to reduce the deficit with a left-footed shot from inside the area, bringing the Greens back into the match and giving his teammates hope of equalizing in the second half.
