José Luis Martínez Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid, stated that the Moroccan city of Casablanca has a better chance than the Spanish capital to host the 2030 World Cup final.

In comments reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca,” Almeida said: “I am not optimistic, and I believe it is right for Morocco and the King of Morocco to strive hard to host the final, and I see that they are moving better both politically and administratively.”

He added: “I do not see our government moving in the same direction, and the fact that the World Cup final is not held in Madrid makes us reconsider the feasibility of hosting the tournament. I am not the one making the decision, but if we do not host the final match, there should be consequences.”

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, stated weeks ago that the 2030 World Cup final will be held at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, which is still under construction.

This stadium is set to open in late 2027 with a capacity of 115,000 spectators, making it the largest in the world, and it will compete with Santiago Bernabéu, home of Real Madrid, to host the 2030 World Cup final.
