As the 2024-2025 season concluded on February 26, 2026, the women's first division national championship in Togo remains on hold, raising numerous questions among fans and stakeholders in the sport.

Invited to speak on Sport FM, Yvette Delali Klussey, head of the women's football department at the Togolese Football Federation (FTF), sought to clarify the situation by highlighting the initial logistical hurdles preventing the competition from starting:

“If it were up to me, the women's championship could start in June. But where could we organize the championship? The fields are already occupied by the first and second division championships. And the same referees officiate the same matches.” Remarks reported by Sportculturenews.tg

Beyond the availability of stadiums and officials, Klussey emphasized a deep societal and structural challenge related to the profile of the players and club management:

“The real problem in our football is that our players are schoolgirls. During the school year, the parents of these players express their concerns. That’s why we want to organize the championship during the holidays. Even then, parents still complain. Clubs also suffer from a lack of personnel. This is what worries us the most.” Remarks reported by Sportculturenews.tg

Despite these significant obstacles hindering the regularity of the schedule, the FTF continues to explore solutions to revitalize Togolese women's football.
