While he continues to deliver remarkable performances with Bayer Leverkusen, Ibrahim Maza spoke about his choice of international career and his personal aspirations. The Algerian international also discussed his progress and the importance of team results after his decisive performance against Freiburg.

Ibrahim Maza has no regrets about his decision to represent Algeria. As his performances with Bayer Leverkusen attract the attention of the German media, the young attacking midfielder reaffirmed his pride in wearing the colors of the Greens, despite the opportunity he had to play for Germany.

Having been trained in the German youth teams, from under-17 to under-20, the 20-year-old player ultimately chose Algeria in September 2024. A decision he defends with conviction, even with Jürgen Klopp, the Germany coach, present in the stands during the match against Freiburg.

“I hope he sees me as a good player. But today, I am an Algerian international and I am proud of it. I also think Germany has excellent players,” Maza said to BILD.

On the field, the Algerian international continues to climb the ranks. With one goal and one assist in Leverkusen's victory against Freiburg (2-1), he played a key role in his team's success on the sixth matchday of the Bundesliga.

The player expressed his satisfaction with his performance while respecting the quality of the opponent: “It was a very enjoyable experience, especially against a solid team like Freiburg. All my respect to Freiburg, but we showed what we are capable of.”

Maza also highlighted his good connection with Patrik Schick: “We produced very beautiful football today. Schick and I are developing an excellent understanding. The more we play together, the better we understand each other and move forward.”

Aware of the importance of maintaining his efforts, the Fennec reminded of his priorities: “I am always looking to improve and train seriously. I hope we will achieve our collective goals this season.”

Finally, the young Algerian wanted to downplay the importance of his individual statistics: “The team's goals are paramount. If I can contribute by scoring or providing assists, I will be very happy. But, of course, I also have my own ambitions.”
