Wahbi denies rumors of a dispute with Sofyan Amrabat.

National coach Mohamed Wahbi emphasized that Sofyan Amrabat has made significant contributions to the "Atlas Lions" in recent years. He stressed the importance of remembering what the player has achieved while denying any dispute or conflict between himself and Amrabat or the coaching staff.

Wahbi stated at a press conference held today at the Mohammed VI Football Center that history grants players respect and appreciation, but it does not guarantee them privileges within the national team.

The national coach added that the current situation and the minutes a player spends on the field with their club are among the criteria considered in the selection process.

Wahbi explained that the issue for Amrabat primarily concerns his lack of recent match participation, saying, "The problem for the player lies in the minutes played," highlighting the importance of competitiveness and constant readiness before being called up to the national team.

These comments came after Amrabat decided not to play for the Moroccan national team as long as Wahbi is the coach, a decision that has sparked widespread controversy in the national sports community.

Regarding the uproar surrounding Abdessamad Ezzalzouli for wearing a shirt supporting the residents of occupied Ceuta in La Liga, the Moroccan national coach affirmed that no one can question the player's loyalty to Morocco and what he contributes for the national team jersey.

The captain of the "Lion's Den" noted that Ezzalzouli recently returned to the pitch after a long absence and was eager to play, which may have contributed to his lack of focus on the message written on the shirt and its implications. He stressed the need to support him and help him gradually regain his form.

Wahbi called for support for the players and urged not to mix sports with politics, emphasizing that the current phase requires backing players to return to their best levels, especially those who have gone through difficult periods or have been away from competition.

Regarding player transfers during the recent summer transfer window, Wahbi mentioned that some players consulted him about their options, explaining that he tried to provide advice that serves their personal interests and the national team's needs, while also stressing that they are surrounded by people who care about their welfare and guide them.

The Moroccan national team is preparing to host Gabon on Friday, September 25, at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, before facing Lesotho the following Tuesday in Bloemfontein, South Africa, in addition to a friendly match against Ghana in Tangier on October 4. These matches are part of the first and second rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
