Mbappé: With the people of Ceuta.. Against discrimination

French international player Kylian Mbappé, forward for Spanish club Real Madrid, expressed his solidarity with Ceuta and its residents after he wrapped his warm-up shirt before his team's match against Elche, which obscured part of the "support message" printed on it.

Real Madrid players wore shirts before the match that read "We are all from Ceuta," referring to the residents of the city occupied by Spain in northern Morocco; while Mbappé and his teammates Vinícius Júnior and Ibrahima Konaté chose to wrap their shirts up to hide part of the phrase.

Mbappé stated: "I want to clarify everything so that people understand. The decision to wear the shirt came from both clubs, and we as players had to wear them. The first thing I want to say is that I stand in full solidarity with Ceuta and all the victims."

The French player added: "Before being a football player, I am a human being; but I also wanted to make a gesture that thinks of all the migrants who have lost their lives and those who live in difficult conditions."

He explained: "Taking this stance was not easy, because people may ultimately think that I am against the residents of Ceuta; but no, not at all. I have nothing against them, and I support them 100 percent; but I also wanted to think of all the people who are suffering, because in the end, I am a human being and I do not want to prioritize one suffering over another."

The BBC reported Mbappé saying: "There are people who are suffering, and it pains me when I see what is happening in the world. I am a young person who wants the best for the world we live in. I want to send a positive message and a message of peace, and I hope this situation is resolved quickly."
