In light of the historic opportunity for the Congolese team to participate in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil, the Congolese Federation of Persons with Disabilities (FECOPEHA) has taken a stand. Through an open letter addressed directly to President Félix Tshisekedi, the organization seeks to raise awareness about the urgent situation of the U25 women’s wheelchair basketball team, which has recently qualified for this prestigious global event.
In its communication, the federation requests tangible financial and logistical support from the government to ensure that the athletes can prepare adequately for the event. FECOPEHA emphasizes the need for intensive training camps, the provision of equipment that meets international standards, rigorous medical and psychological follow-up, as well as full coverage of travel and accommodation for the delegation.
Beyond athletic performance, the federation highlights that this historic qualification should serve as a catalyst to strengthen inclusion and increase recognition of persons with disabilities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. “They have carried the flag. Now it is our turn to support them.” summarizing this heartfelt call for civic duty and national solidarity, the organization concludes with a powerful statement.
