Jurgen Klopp is on the brink of becoming the new head coach of Germany after coming to a preliminary agreement with the German Football Association (DFB). The ex-Liverpool manager engaged in discussions with DFB president Bernd Neuendorf and vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke in New York on Friday, where they reached consensus on the main aspects of a potential contract. While the deal is not yet finalized, further talks are anticipated next week as the DFB seeks to finalize terms with Red Bull, Klopp's current employer. The 59-year-old has been serving as the Head of Global Football at the company since January 2025. In a statement, the DFB confirmed that the meeting was productive and conveyed optimism that negotiations would conclude successfully once an agreement is established with Red Bull. Klopp is likely to sign a four-year deal, marking his first opportunity to lead the German national team in his managerial career. This position will also signify his return to coaching after departing Liverpool at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, following a successful nine-year tenure at Anfield. He is poised to take over from Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned after Germany's disappointing exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
