Kofi Adams: Ghana risks losing the U-20 AFCON hosting privileges if the stadiums are not improved.
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has cautioned that Ghana risks losing its rights to host next year's U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament if immediate enhancements are not carried out on the nation's sports facilities.
Ghana earned the chance to host this youth continental event as part of the celebrations for the country's 70th Independence Anniversary.
Nonetheless, worries have surfaced regarding the state of various stadiums and training venues, prompting demands for significant renovations ahead of the tournament.
In an interview with TV3, Mr. Adams emphasized that improving essential facilities is vital to ensuring Ghana can successfully host the competition. "Ghana has secured the bid to host the U-20 African Championship next year, but we cannot manage these events without upgrading some of our facilities," the Buem MP stated.
The Sports Minister highlighted that the nation must adhere to the standards established by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to safeguard its hosting privileges.
Ghana's preparations for the tournament are anticipated to involve renovations at selected stadiums, enhancements to training facilities, and upgrades to other essential infrastructure required to accommodate teams and officials from across Africa.
