Roger De Sa discusses the obstacles facing the Black Stars in the World Cup.

De Sa was part of Carlos Queiroz's coaching staff for the tournament, having been appointed merely weeks prior to the finals after Otto Addo's dismissal. Despite the limited preparation period, Ghana was eliminated in the round of 32, losing 2-1 to Colombia in Kansas City. In an interview on 947's MSW, De Sa shared insights into the challenging circumstances the coaching team confronted from the outset. "I think when you are coaching, you're always going to encounter different challenges along the way, and for us, the foremost issue was taking over a team that had suffered six consecutive defeats; that was the immediate and most significant challenge," De Sa remarked. "We were like, 'we have to turn this around.' The first objective had to be instilling a winning mentality, rather than a losing one."

With Ghana's players dispersed across Europe, De Sa highlighted the logistical difficulties involved in assembling a final 26-man squad.

"I left here, spent merely three days in Accra, and then caught the next flight to Europe, dedicating the subsequent four weeks to traveling from club to club, match to match, whenever the Ghanaian players were in action," he explained. "I observed players, sometimes attending their training sessions, so it was a monumental task to finalize the 26 players; that alone was a significant challenge. Coupled with the injuries we faced, it presented yet another hurdle." Queiroz signed a four-month contract ahead of the World Cup, which is anticipated to conclude in August. His future with the Black Stars remains in question. Ghana's World Cup run ended with a 2-1 loss to Colombia in the round of 32, finishing third in Group L behind England and Croatia.
