Algeria's Handball Team Misses Quarter-Final Spot on Goal Difference
The national under-21 handball team failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Abidjan.
Despite their victory today, Tuesday, over Angola with a score of 25-22 in their final group match, the young "Greens" lost their qualification spot on goal difference.
The national team finished the group stage with 4 points, tied with Angola and Nigeria, while Madagascar did not earn any points.
Goal difference determined the teams that advanced to the quarter-finals, with Angola topping the group with a +33 goal difference (scoring 100 and conceding 67), followed by Nigeria also with a +33 goal difference (scoring 97 and conceding 64).
The national team exited the competition, which runs in Abidjan from September 5 to 12, finishing in third place with a +29 goal difference, having scored 89 and conceded 60.
It is worth noting that the young "Greens" lost their opening match against Nigeria 18-23, then achieved a big win in the second round against Madagascar 46-15, before defeating Angola today 25-22, but that was not enough to continue their journey in the tournament.
