Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has shared his thoughts on his team's qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria earned their spot in the tournament after overcoming Benin Republic’s Young Amazons with a 5-3 victory in the second leg of their final qualifying round match at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé on Saturday.
The Flamingos progressed with an 8-5 aggregate score, having secured a 3-2 win in the first leg at home the previous weekend.

Busari Reflects On Challenging Victory
Busari acknowledged that the Beninese team provided a formidable challenge and made the match tough for his players.
“From the very first leg, it was not an easy contest; they demonstrated resilience and proved hard to defeat. Mistakes are always part of the game, and we took advantage of them. They are also a very capable team,” Busari informed reporters post-match.
“We managed to overcome them because we focused on our strengths. Our approach was challenging for them since we opted for man-marking rather than zonal marking.
“In all their previous matches against other teams, they scored many goals. Facing us, they displayed that quality as well. We applied high pressure in their half, which made things challenging for them.”
