WAFCON 2026: Plumptre Regrets Missing Out on Super Falcons Roster

Ashleigh Plumptre has voiced her discontent after not being included in Nigeria’s roster for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

On Friday, head coach Justine Madugu revealed his squad of 25 players for the tournament, with Plumptre being one of the notable exclusions.

The adaptable defender has been out of action since March due to a foot injury sustained while playing for Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad Ladies.

Plumptre Supports Super Falcons

Despite her ongoing recovery, the 28-year-old took to social media to share her sadness about missing the tournament, while also expressing her unwavering support for the Super Falcons in Morocco.

“The body is asking for more time and I’m listening ❤️‍🩹
Sad to be missing this WAFCON yet hopeful in the prospect of getting to fight alongside these women again with the support of Nigerians everywhere when the body is ready to compete again,” Plumptre wrote on X.

“So, in the meantime, back these women, support them in their quest for victory once more. Go easy on them, they need you 💚
I am with you ladies 🫶🏽
Naija no dey carry last 🫀.”

The former Leicester City defender made her WAFCON debut at the 2022 tournament in Morocco, where she became a vital part of the Super Falcons.

Plumptre also played a crucial role in Nigeria’s triumphant 2024 WAFCON campaign, assisting the team in securing a record-extending 10th continental title.
