World Cup 2026: Ibrahim Sannie Daara praises the efforts of the Black Stars

Ibrahim Sannie Daara, the former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), believes that the Black Stars' FIFA World Cup journey should lay the groundwork for future achievements, emphasizing that the team merits recognition for its efforts, even though they did not reach their ultimate goal. After finishing 3rd in Group L, the Black Stars were eliminated in the Round of 32 following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Colombia. In a discussion on Asempa FM, Sannie Daara stated that Ghana left the tournament with its dignity intact, commending the players for their dedication and resolve throughout the event. "The Black Stars have plenty of potential. We did not embarrass ourselves at the World Cup; the players gave their all. Our focus now should be on reinforcing the team and addressing the areas that require improvement," he remarked. Despite the Black Stars' inability to advance further in the tournament, Daara highlighted that their performances indicate the team is on the right track under the current management. He urged the GFA and the coaching staff to utilize the insights gained from their World Cup experience to enhance the squad, rather than initiating a complete overhaul. He emphasized that strengthening crucial elements of the team should take precedence as Ghana gears up for upcoming international events, including the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, set to kick off in September. He also pointed out that the players exhibited resilience and commitment on the global stage, and that focused enhancements in skill and depth could position the Black Stars as serious contenders in future competitions. With the World Cup behind them, the Black Stars will now turn their attention to securing a spot for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana has been placed in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Somalia, and The Gambia, with the qualifying matches scheduled to commence in September.
