The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) announced on Saturday who would succeed Vladimir Petkovic as the head of the Algeria national team. One month after the official announcement of his departure following a disappointing 2026 World Cup, the federation has entrusted the national team to three former Algerian internationals.
The new coaching staff includes Brahim Hemdani, selected to "lead the national A team, in view of the upcoming international sporting challenges," according to the FAF statement.

Nasredine Berarma, the only survivor
The new coach and former coach of the Algeria U21 team, Brahim Hemdani, will be assisted by Antar Yahia as assistant coach and Daineche Nacer as fitness coach, while Nasredine Berarma has been appointed goalkeeper coach.

Berarma is the only member of Petkovic's staff to retain his position. The two assistants of the Swiss coach, whose contract ended on August 3, Davide Morandi and Nabil Neghiz, have not been retained.
The federal bureau also "validated" the appointment of former Algerian international midfielder and ex-player of JSK and AJ Auxerre, Moussa Saib, as the general manager of the national team.

Two months after being eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by Switzerland (0-2) on July 3, the Algeria national team is set to embark on a new chapter, with Brahim Hemdani at the helm and two former internationals in the technical staff. In its statement, the FAF did not specify the duration of the new coach's contract.
