African Karate Championship: Nariman Dahleb Opens Algeria's Medal Count
Nariman Dahleb opened Algeria's medal count at the African Karate Championship by winning a bronze medal in the women's individual kata for seniors on Thursday.
Dahleb's achievement marks the beginning for Algeria in this continental championship, which features the best karate athletes from various age groups and disciplines, including kata and kumite. The competitions are held at the Palais des Sports "Mohamed Boudiaf" in the capital, Algiers.
The African Karate Championship takes place in Algeria from September 9 to 13, with athletes competing in categories for juniors, youth, hopes, and seniors. The competitions will continue in various individual and team events until next Sunday.
Additionally, wrestler Saber Ben Makhlouf has qualified for the men's kata final, and wrestler Celia Wikan has secured her spot in the final for the 50 kg weight category, where she will face Egyptian competitor Reem Ahmed Salama.
Algeria has high hopes for its national team to achieve as many medals as possible, especially since the championship serves as an important opportunity for qualification for the World Championship scheduled to take place in Hangzhou, China, from November 20 to 22, 2026.
