Slimani: “I’m Not Thinking About Retirement and I’m Looking for a New Challenge”
Algerian star Islam Slimani confirmed that he is not considering ending his football career, stating that he is still capable of playing and is looking for a new challenge before concluding his journey.
Regarding the possibility of retirement, Slimani said: “I’m 38 years old, I’m still in good health, and I’m not in a hurry.”
The former national team striker spoke to French newspaper “L’Équipe,” saying: “I’m looking for a new challenge; I want to end my career well, with something that makes me happy and fulfilled. I believe I have had a satisfying career.”
Slimani also mentioned that he does not feel his journey is over, emphasizing his ability to share his experience with younger players, saying: “I’m a logical person. In my mind, I know I’m still capable of playing.”
He added: “I don’t want to retire, and I have the ability to continue. I’ve done it my whole life, and I feel that the story isn’t over yet. I can also share my experience with the younger generations.”
A Career Spanning 9 Countries and 14 Clubs… I Regret Nothing
Slimani talked about his career, which has taken him to play in 9 countries and 14 different clubs, the latest being Romanian club Cluj, considering his journey between experiences as something special for him.
He said: “I’m a big traveler; I know people may see that as unusual given such a path. But on the contrary, it has been very special, and I have lived wonderful experiences, human adventures, and discovered countries.”
He concluded: “When I was 24, I was still in Algeria, and life led me to play in Brazil. For example, this is the magic of football; I regret nothing, and I would do exactly the same if I could turn back time.”
