Arsenal has confirmed the acquisition of French goalkeeper Illan Meslier from Leeds United on a two-year contract, following his release from the club last week.
Meslier is anticipated to take on the role of third-choice goalkeeper after spending seven seasons with Leeds.
“We are pleased to announce the addition of seasoned goalkeeper Illan Meslier to our squad,” Arsenal stated in an announcement on their official website on Thursday.
“At 26 years old, Illan joins us after a notable seven years with Leeds United, where he made 215 appearances across all competitions, achieving 70 clean sheets.
“Illan began his journey in his hometown with FC Lorient, advancing through their academy before signing his first professional contract in February 2018. The commanding goalkeeper made his senior debut later that year, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 Coupe de la Ligue win over Valenciennes FC at the young age of 18.

“After a standout breakthrough season, where he made 28 appearances in France’s second division during the 2018/19 campaign, Illan joined then-Championship team Leeds United on a season-long loan in August 2019. He made his Leeds debut at Emirates Stadium in an FA Cup third-round match in January 2020.
“Following Leeds’ promotion to the Premier League at the end of his first season in English football, Illan’s loan spell was converted into a permanent deal. Since then, he has made 107 appearances in the top flight, arriving with a wealth of experience and skill, further bolstering our goalkeeping options ahead of the upcoming season.
“Illan will don the number 30 jersey (get yours now on Arsenal Direct) and will integrate with his new teammates when they return to Sobha Realty Training Centre for pre-season training.
