Mohamed Amoura played a crucial role in the Algerian team's performance. In Brahim Hemdani's first match as coach, the OGC Nice forward provided two assists in the Greens' 3-1 victory over Zambia, although he may regret several clear chances that could have seen him score himself.
In the 2nd minute, Amoura perfectly set up Jaouen Hadjam with a through ball to open the scoring. After Fashion Sakala equalized in the second half, the number 11 once again made the difference by passing to Ibrahim Maza, who restored Algeria's lead in the 67th minute. Anis Hadj Moussa then secured the victory for the Greens.
Despite a performance that ranks him among the best players of the match, Amoura appeared very affected at the final whistle. Standing in tears, he was surrounded and comforted by several teammates. This frustration was likely linked to his lack of success in front of goal, having created several promising opportunities. With this match, Amoura now has a total of 48 international caps and 19 goals, while adding two more assists to his record.
The forward will need to quickly move on, as Algeria will travel to Burundi on September 29 for the second round of qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. After being a double assister in Tizi Ouzou, Amoura will be looking to find the back of the net this time.
