After a tight match, MC Alger lost 2-0 to Nigeria, putting the Algerian players in a difficult situation ahead of the return leg. The MCA must turn the tide in Algiers to continue their journey on the continental stage.

MC Alger delivered a poor performance in Nigeria. Facing Rangers International on Sunday, October 18, the Mouloudia lost 2-0 in Abeokuta during the first leg of the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. This result is particularly frustrating as the Nigerians played with ten men from the 13th minute. After being held at 0-0 for a long time, the MCA ultimately broke down in the final minutes.

The match was also marked by high tension. After the quick dismissal of a Rangers player, a Mouloudia player received a red card in the 52nd minute, followed by the expulsion of a member of the Algerian technical staff. In total, three red cards were issued, two of which were to the MCA. The Rangers then took the lead with a penalty in the 83rd minute, and James Emo extended the score to 2-0 four minutes later.

The disappointment is immense for Mouloudia supporters. About a hundred Chnaoua made the long trip to Nigeria to support their team, creating a great atmosphere far from Algiers. Unfortunately, their support was not rewarded on the pitch. The MCA will, however, have another 90 minutes to turn the situation around in the return match, scheduled for Friday, October 23, in Algiers, with a spot in the group stage at stake.

This defeat could increase the pressure on Khaled Ben Yahia. Calls for his departure are growing louder after this setback. Nevertheless, the coach is expected to retain his position until the return match, which is already crucial for his future. If eliminated at this preliminary stage, his position could be seriously jeopardized.
