CAF Surprises Clubs with New Decisions

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced a series of new decisions regarding its club competitions following a meeting of its executive committee chaired by South African Patrice Motsepe last Friday.

According to the CAF statement, one of the most significant approved decisions allows players to participate with more than one club during a single season in CAF club competitions.

This amendment changes the previous rules regarding player eligibility during the continental season.

The executive committee also approved modifications related to player rosters, allowing each club to register up to 40 players at any time during the season.

The new system will permit clubs, during the final registration period, to replace four players, provided those players have not participated in any matches in CAF club competitions during the same season.

Regarding disciplinary matters, CAF decided to refer all disciplinary issues to the Disciplinary Committee, as this authority has been removed from the Club Competitions Committee.

In the same context, the executive committee approved the CAF competition schedule for the period from 2026 to 2030.

This aims to provide clearer visibility for national federations, clubs, and other stakeholders regarding the organization of competitions and continental dates in the coming years.

CAF also confirmed that the 2026 Awards Ceremony will take place in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 7. Nigeria will also host the Ordinary General Assembly of the federation on November 21.

Dates for Women's CAF Champions League and African Beach Soccer Cup

The executive committee also confirmed the dates for the upcoming edition of the Women's CAF Champions League, with the final stage of the competition set to take place from November 1 to 15.

Additionally, Senegal will host the finals of the 2026 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations from November 28 to December 6, as the defending champion of the last edition.
