Football Federation: Mohamed El Sheikh was not nominated for the Olympic team and the criteria do not apply to him.

Football Association officials confirmed that reports regarding Mohamed El Sheikh, the former Wadi Degla coach, being offered the position of U-23 national team coach by Shawky Gharib, the national team manager, are not true. They also denied that Gharib excluded El Sheikh from the list of candidates as recently claimed.

Selection of National Team Coaches Based on Specific Criteria

Football Association officials clarified that there are established criteria for selecting national team coaches, which are particularly important as the Confederation of African Football requires coaches to hold certain licenses to attend matches.

They added that Mohamed El Sheikh, for instance, holds a B coaching license, while the national team manager must possess an A license.

The officials also confirmed that Mohamed El Sheikh obtained his B coaching license in 2025, and according to CAF regulations, he cannot acquire the A license until two years later, which would be at the end of 2027.

Additionally, the Football Association officials revealed that further criteria include international representation for the Egypt national team and the ability to handle public pressure, all of which contribute to shaping the character of national team coaches.
