Abde Ezzalzouli is facing backlash since last weekend. The Moroccan player is accused of betrayal by some of his fellow citizens.
Footballers from Villarreal and Real Betis wore t-shirts on Monday in solidarity with the residents of Ceuta. This city is at the center of diplomatic tensions between Morocco and Spain. The t-shirts read, in Spanish, “we are all Caballas.” Following this initiative, Abde Ezzalzouli was targeted by Moroccan supporters. Many did not hesitate to label him a “traitor.” In a message shared on his Instagram story, the player responded to these accusations.
“At no point was the shirt in support of the residents of Ceuta used for political purposes or out of disrespect for my people, the Moroccan people. It was a shirt with a social purpose, aimed at supporting a population in difficulty, regardless of their nationality. This is not a justification for anyone. And anyone who wishes to exploit this situation to question my attachment to my country is free to do so. I will continue to move forward every day with pride and to represent my roots with dignity and dedication,” he stated.
