Formula E's CEO Jeff Dodds has expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of Max Verstappen getting behind the wheel of the new Gen4 car, which is the most powerful vehicle the series has ever utilized. Although he hasn’t yet spoken to the four-time Formula 1 champion about it, he believes that having the Dutch driver experience the capabilities of the electric race car would be highly beneficial.

“No, we haven’t discussed the car with him yet,” Dodds mentioned to RacingNews365. “I know he’s very dedicated, and I’m thrilled to see him extend his contract with Red Bull for the long haul. Naturally, we’re quite familiar with the team there, and I think they’re doing an excellent job.

“However, I would still love to see Max in this car, partly because I truly value his perspective. I’d love for him to take it for a spin so he can provide us with genuine feedback and insights about it.”

The Gen4 vehicle features permanent all-wheel drive, delivers 450kW of race power, and can reach up to 600kW in Attack Mode. This significant power has caught attention, particularly with reigning champion Lando Norris inspecting it closely during the Monaco E-Prix, along with Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg who also took a closer look.

“I forget the name of his team, Verstappen Racing, but his investments extend beyond just racing Formula 1 cars,” he added. “He’s also developing academies and is very committed to sim-to-track activities.

"I believe there are exciting opportunities to collaborate with him.”

In 2027, Formula E will make its debut in Verstappen's native country, with a double-header scheduled for Zandvoort in June. Dodds remained somewhat tight-lipped about whether Verstappen would participate, but he did indicate that he anticipates the Gen4 car will attract a host of new drivers.

"We’re going to be inundated with prospective new drivers," he stated.

Verstappen has shown a keen interest in motorsport beyond F1, as evidenced by his recent involvement in GT racing, and he has been positive in his assessments of the Gen4 cars. Perhaps a crossover could be on the horizon. But for now, the focus shifts to the upcoming United States Grand Prix.
