Mathieu Rieb, the Director General of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), confirmed that the hearing regarding the ongoing dispute between Morocco, Senegal, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) began as scheduled today, Thursday, in Lausanne, Switzerland, with representatives from all parties present, defended by lawyers advocating for their interests before the arbitration panel.
Rieb explained in press statements that the session is proceeding according to a strict timetable previously agreed upon by the parties' lawyers, noting that the arguments are expected to continue until around 3:00 or 3:30 PM, with the possibility of extending to 4:00 PM at the latest.
The CAS Director General revealed that the panel overseeing this dispute consists of three arbitrators, chaired by Frenchman Gérald Simon, with German Ulrich Haas and Italian Luigi Fumala as members.
Regarding the timing of the final decision, Rieb confirmed that the court aims to resolve this dispute, which has lasted for several months, as soon as possible after the hearing concludes.
The same official ruled out the possibility of a decision being issued today, Thursday, or tomorrow, Friday, explaining that it may take a few days or even weeks, depending on the time needed for the arbitration panel to review the case and reach a decision.
Rieb indicated that additional information may be available later in the afternoon, allowing for more detailed updates on the proceedings and the next steps in resolving the dispute.
