Despite a difficult international break with the Algerian U20s, Yanis Sellami continues to enjoy the trust of Olympique de Marseille. The young midfielder, 19, has extended his contract until June 2029.

While the international break is underway, Olympique de Marseille has chosen to secure the future of one of its young Algerian talents. The Phocaean club announced on Friday the contract extension of Yanis Sellami, who is now tied to OM until June 2029. At just 19 years old, the defensive midfielder continues his journey with his training club.

“Our Algerian midfielder, trained at the Training Center, extends his contract with Olympique de Marseille until 2029”, the club stated on its social media platforms. This is a significant show of confidence for someone who primarily plays with the Marseille reserve team and signed his first professional contract in December 2024.

However, this announcement comes just days after a much less joyful evening with the national team. Captain of the Algeria U20s, Sellami faced heavy criticism following the young Greens' heavy defeat against Morocco (3-1) on Wednesday in the UNAF tournament qualifying for the U20 AFCON 2027. Algeria notably conceded three goals in just eleven minutes, between the 53rd and 64th minutes.

A setback for Sellami, who had shone just days earlier by scoring a header in the victory against Libya (3-1). In Marseille, this extension nonetheless confirms the trust placed in him and now offers him several seasons to reach a new level.
