Lina Griou Eliminated Early from Judo Grand Slam in Hungary
Algerian judoka Lina Maria Griou was eliminated today, Friday, in the first round of the Judo Grand Slam in Hungary, taking place in the capital Budapest from September 11 to 13.
Griou lost in the opening round to Polish competitor Barbara Tawarowska in the under 52 kg category.
Algeria is participating in the Hungarian event, which is an important stop on the global judo circuit, alongside other judokas including Massoud Redouane and Mohamed Mehdi Lili.
Driss, the gold medalist from the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, is expected to compete tomorrow, Saturday, facing Indian Nils Thaisen in the under 73 kg category.
Meanwhile, his teammate Mohamed Mehdi Lili will have to wait until the third and final day of the competition to have his first match in the over 100 kg category, where he has drawn Hungarian Levente Hondobush.
