Driss Massoud Competes for Bronze at Hungary's Grand Slam
Algerian judoka Driss Ridouane Massoud is competing for the bronze medal in the -73 kg category at the Hungary Grand Slam judo tournament.
The Mediterranean champion in the -73 kg category lost in the quarter-finals of the tournament held in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, to Italian Giovanni Esposito.
However, Massoud bounced back in the repechage round, defeating Czech Chusnidin Krimov, which secures him a chance to compete for the bronze medal. He will face Japanese Shosuke Ouchimura this Saturday evening, who lost in the semi-finals to Azerbaijani Rashid Mamadaliev.
The Algerian champion began his campaign with a victory over Dutch Niels Theisen in the first round. He then overcame Hungarian Attila Oveghish in the second round before continuing his success in the round of 16, but Italian Esposito halted his progress in the quarter-finals.
It is worth noting that Algeria is represented by three athletes in the tournament, with Lina Maria Griou eliminated in the first round of the -52 kg category, while Mohamed Mahdi Lili will enter the competition tomorrow, Sunday, in the +100 kg category, facing Hungarian Levente Dobos.
