The coach of Kenya, Benni McCarthy, remains very clear about the Harambee Stars' prospects for winning the next Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2027). According to him, Kenya does not yet have the necessary assets to compete with the top football nations in Africa.

Benni McCarthy did not hesitate to mention several teams above Kenya.

“Even if I were offered millions of dollars to win the CAN, I don’t think Kenya has the means or a strong enough team to compete with Morocco, Egypt, Ivory Coast, or Senegal,” he stated.

The Harambee Stars coach also mentions Guinea among the teams likely to make a mark on the scene. According to him, these nations have high-caliber players and much more experience on the continent. For Kenya, there are still several steps to take before they can seriously consider the trophy.

McCarthy calls for patience in building

For Benni McCarthy, the evolution of football in Kenya cannot be accomplished in a few months. He believes it will take several years of hard work for the country to field a team capable of regularly competing with the African giants.

The coach even mentions a timeline of up to ten years to establish the foundations necessary for the emergence of a true title challenger. This long-term vision includes the development of players and strengthening the resources surrounding the national team.

Nevertheless, Kenya continues to pursue its ambitions on the African stage and will seek to gradually close the gap with the best teams. For McCarthy, hoping for a victory at the CAN is not out of reach, but the Harambee Stars must first catch up on significant delays.
