At the conclusion of discussions on Thursday during the CAF Strategic Conference in Sal, Cape Verde, Patrice Motsepe reaffirmed the position of the 54 member associations of CAF regarding the upcoming FIFA presidential elections.
The CAF president, accompanied by leaders from the 54 African federations, confirmed the "unanimous and unconditional" support of African football for Gianni Infantino in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for 2027. Patrice Motsepe emphasized that this position stems from discussions held within CAF as well as various information recently circulated in the media.
“The football federations of 52 countries on the African continent have taken this unanimous position as part of recent discussions and media events. An essential component of the resolution is that there is unanimous agreement among the 54 member associations of CAF on the African continent. The goal is to represent the 54 countries to provide total and unconditional support, due to all the discussions held, but also because of Gianni's history and significant commitment to African football. As FIFA president, he wishes to express Africa's total and unconditional support for his presidency of FIFA” said the CAF president.
The CAF president publicly confirmed the position of the continental body as the Strategic Conference gathers leaders from the 54 member associations in Cape Verde to address the major challenges facing African football and its development.
