The Somali Football Federation hopes that Omar Artan will showcase his refereeing skills in Egypt. They have contacted their Egyptian counterpart to allow the Somali referee to officiate matches in the Egyptian Premier League. The request is still awaiting a final decision.
According to local media, this initiative has been well received by the Egyptian referees' committee, led by Essam Abdel-Fattah. However, the approval of the Egyptian Football Association remains essential before any assignment.
At 34 years old, Omar Artan has been a FIFA international referee since 2018. His career reached a peak in 2025 when he was awarded the title of best male referee by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
If he receives approval from the Egyptian authorities, he could leverage his experience in one of the continent's most popular leagues.
