Riyad Mahrez scored his first goal with Al Shamal on Friday, during his team's defeat against Qatar SC (3-2) in the 2026-2027 Qatari league. Starting the match, the Algerian winger took the opportunity to open his account with his new team, although he could not prevent the loss.

Trailing by two goals at halftime, Al Shamal relied on their number 26 to revitalize the match. In the 65th minute, Mahrez found himself one-on-one with the opposing goalkeeper to take a penalty. The former captain of the Algerian national team converted his shot with a powerful strike to the left of the keeper, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

This goal reignited hope for the Al Shamal players. Nine minutes later, Thiago Silva equalized by scoring his team's second goal. However, just when Mahrez's team seemed to have accomplished the hardest part, Qatar SC regained the lead with a goal from Ivorian Yohan Boli.

Despite this strong response in the second half, Al Shamal ultimately left the pitch without a single point. For Mahrez, this first goal remains a positive sign in his new journey.

Officially joining in October from Al Ahli Saudi, which he left by mutual agreement, the 35-year-old player is experiencing a new environment after several successful seasons. With the Saudi club, he notably won two AFC Champions Leagues in 2025 and 2026, as well as the Saudi Super Cup in 2025.

Now on the scoreboard with Al Shamal, Mahrez will hope to continue this momentum in the upcoming matches to help his team bounce back after this frustrating defeat.
